Although Hot Rails will not specify any power infrastructure, we will include some cost estimates of it here all the same.
AECOM13
AECOM13’s estimates are detailed in the table below; the total cost of $5.2 billion comes to an average of $2.975m/km.
[table]
Element,Cost,Unit,Frequency
Modify existing substation,$5m,Each,As needed
New transmission substation$50m,Each,As needed
Transmission lines,$500k,Per km,As needed
OHLE,$1.5m,Per route-km,Entire length
Traction power substation,$36.1m,Each,Every 60km
Autotransformers,$5m,Each,Every 10km

Von Brown study
Von Brown’s 2011 study broadly supports the estimates of AECOM13, with 354km/h dual track electrical infrastructure coming to $2.125m/km. Note: the data below is per mile. The cost is approximately half for the lower design speed of 125mph (201km/h).
