Power

Although Hot Rails will not specify any power infrastructure, we will include some cost estimates of it here all the same.

AECOM13

AECOM13’s estimates are detailed in the table below; the total cost of $5.2 billion comes to an average of $2.975m/km.

[table]
Element,Cost,Unit,Frequency
Modify existing substation,$5m,Each,As needed
New transmission substation$50m,Each,As needed
Transmission lines,$500k,Per km,As needed
OHLE,$1.5m,Per route-km,Entire length
Traction power substation,$36.1m,Each,Every 60km
Autotransformers,$5m,Each,Every 10km

Von Brown study

Von Brown’s 2011 study broadly supports the estimatesĀ of AECOM13, with 354km/h dual track electrical infrastructure coming to $2.125m/km. Note: the data below is per mile. The cost is approximately half for the lower design speed of 125mph (201km/h).
